Bodegas Catena Zapata, Mendoza, Argentina 0.75ltr.
98/100 Robert Parker and James Suckling
Catena Zapata is one of the great names of Argentine winegrowing, as well as a bodega of Argentine origin. The ancestors of the current owner set foot here from Italy in 1898. Nicola Catena, the founder of this company, believed that he had arrived at Mendoza in the promised land. He felt that the Malbec, which was used in Bordeaux as a grape to blend with Cabernet and Merlot, among others, would do very well in the Argentine climate. That turned out to be very true. His son Domingo inherited his father's optimistic vision and made good progress with the family business. The family became one of the largest vineyard owners in the Mendoza area.
Tasting note:
“Great wine. Intense and aromatic in the scent. Blackcurrant, blackberry, licorice. floral. Pure and deep."
