Champagne Piper-Heidsieck, Reims 0.75ltr
97/100 Points James Sucking
Millésime 2008 Rare or vintage champagne is the showpiece of the Piper-Heidsieck champagne house. Vintage year 2008 was in any case a very good year for champagne. This Millésimé Rare 2008 won, among other things, a gold medal at the International Wine Challenge 2021. It is an assembly of 17 crus that have matured for seven years in the cellars of the champagne house. Consisting mainly of chardonnays from la Montagne de Reims (70%) supplemented with pinots noirs (30 %) from the same region, this champagne is rich and complex in taste.
Jeweler designed bottle
If you like baroque, the style of the bottle will certainly appeal to you. He is dressed in a sort of gold vine tiara designed by the Parisian jeweler Arthus Bertrand. It is a 'golden' decoration that you can remove from the bottle and wear as a crown on your head.
The champagne itself is quite complex, but also a delicate and nuanced champagne with a large brioche nose. Very fresh and lively on the palate with a hint of ginger and orange zest.
