Château Cos Labory is a 5th Cru Classé in Saint-Estèphe and borders Cos d'Estournel. Both owe their name to the Cos Hill, which is covered with pebbles and provides an excellent terroir.
The other part of the name comes from François Labory, who owned Château Cos Labory until 1845. Then it was briefly in the hands of the neighbor, Mr d'Estournel, but he then sold it again to a banker. Eventually, through a marriage, it came into the hands of the Audoy family, who still own the estate and – as one of the few château owners – lives there all year round.
The vineyard covers 18 hectares and is planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The vineyards are adjacent to those of Cos d'Estournel, some plots are even in the middle of their neighbor's vineyard. They also own plots, mainly clay soils, in the north of the appellation, next to Chateau Lafon-Rochet. Merlot is largely planted here.
