“The 2021 Clos Floridene Blanc is terrific. Dried flowers, mint, lemon confit, pear and ginger are all laced together. This nuanced, layered dry white from the Dubourdieu family is impossible to resist. The 2021 is a gorgeous Clos Floridene Blanc.” † Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 90-91 points
Clos Floridène was founded in 1982 by Denis and Florence Dubourdieu and they named the winery after themselves. At the time, the vineyards covered 2 hectares and were planted with old vines of the Sémillon and Muscadelle grape. In addition, there was of course a winery on the plot and they had 2 hectares of fallow land that was immediately planted with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Due to the slow but continuous acquisition of plots, Clos Floridène now covers approximately 40 hectares of vineyards, all located within the Graves appellation. The soil of the vineyards consists mainly of limestone in the vineyards around Pujols-sur-Ciron, while the vineyards around Illats are planted on a pebble soil. In 1991, Clos Floridène took over the so-called Château Montalivet and its 13 hectares of vineyards. In 2016, the maturation cellar was further expanded so that from now on it could age its wines within its own domain, where this was previously provided at Château Reynon. During the first 36 years, development and expansion were central and the results are showing. Clos Floridène has a great international reputation and produces exceptionally beautiful wines.
