Clos Lunelles has a magnificent terroir in Saint-Colombe, the highest point in the Castillon region. It has similar soil properties to St. Emilion. It is an extension of that. As the crow flies, the domain is only a few kilometers from Ch. Pavie in St. Emilion, vinified by the same owner. Very low yields (26hl/ha), green harvest, two defoliations, 50% new oak and 50% one-year oak... All these interventions ensure a quality that can rival many St. Emilion Grand Cru Classé. It would certainly come out on top in blind tastings.
Dark chocolate, black cherries, blackberries, smoke, wet earth and forest leaf aromas show in the nose. The wine is rich, dense, opulent and mineral-driven, so you find a strong, oceanic-influence that comes along with the plums, black cherries and cocoa. The low pH provides ample lift and energy in the tense finish that is perfect for its wealth of fruit. The wine was made from blending 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc, 14.63% ABV, 3.57 pH. Drink from 2025-2040. 93-95 Pts.
