This Château is the most described and visited Château of Bordeaux. Thanks to its owner, Baron Philippe de Rothschild, who took charge of the domain at the age of 20 and brilliantly publicized the Château.
Two years after taking office, the Baron decided to bottle his wines at the Château itself, a very revolutionary step for the time, as all wines were shipped in barrels and bottled on site. Since the 1934 harvest, he indicated on the labels the number of bottles produced and from the 1945 harvest, he had the top of the label designed by another, often famous, artist.
Fortunately, in addition to all this busy work, the wine of this famous Château was not forgotten. The baron and his staff managed to make the best wine in the world with passion, with the result that in 1973 Mouton Rothschild was the only one to be promoted in the Grand Cru Classé of 1855 from second cru to first cru. This has not been equaled since then. After the Baron's death in 1988, his daughter Philippine took over the domain.
This one grand wine is mainly vinified from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes (75%), supplemented by Merlot (13%), Cabernet Franc (9%) and Petit Verdot grapes (3%). After aging in new oak barrels, the wine acquires its complexity.
Château Mouton Rothschild has a lush and at the same time intensely fragrant fruitiness. It has a richly filled structure, ripe tannins, beautiful, striking wood aspects and often all kinds of subtle nuances such as herbs and leather.
