Vivaltus, Ribera del Duero
97/100 Tim Atkins
“What a debut! Even given the distinguished track record of consultant Jean Claude Berrouet, this is a remarkable wine.” 97 Tim Atkins
The owner is the Yllera family which has been making quality wines for 6 generations. Currently, the company is run by a team of professional young people led by siblings Marcos and Carlos Yllera who have taken Yllera Bodegas Y Viñedos to the top of the wine sector. They are always looking for the best quality-price-personality relationship in their wines and thanks to the continuous investments and expansions in the wineries and vineyards, the barrels and technology. The family's latest project is VivaltuS and is the prestigious project of Spanish winemaker Montxo Martinez and legendary French winemaker Jean-Claude Berrouet (the man behind Château Petrus and Dominus).
The Yllera family has a long history of winemaking in Ribera del Duero, Spain, but their new project Vivaltus is already their 2016 crowning achievement as their very first vintage. A wine that will be an important name in Ribera del Duero' in the eyes of Wine Advocate's Luis Gutiérrez. The stormy success of the Vivaltus 2016 can partly blame the estate on the legendary advisor Jean-Claude Berrouet, winemaker at Château Pétrus. Tim Atkin MW praises Berrouet's influence and states that, even given his 'distinguished track record', this is truly 'a remarkable wine'. Also special is that this wine is distributed via the Place du Bordeaux to ensure that only serious and reputable wine companies handle this wine with care.
